We delivered this commission last weekend to its new owner! Cottage: Alton Bay (Oil on canvas, 18″x 24″) was painted for a friend who spent many summers here on Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire both as a child and as an adult.

Many of the cottages up at Alton Bay Conference Center burned to the ground in a large fire in the spring of 2009.This is the second painting I have completed for them. The first was also of Alton Bay and depicts the small cove on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH near the cottage.

That previous painting Alton Bay (Oil on Canvas, 18″ x 24″) is now hanging in their home, a reminder of summer and carefree days. The place holds many memories for her and her family. Now that they no longer have the cottage to go to they are now even more grateful to have both paintings hanging side by side to bring back memories.

I am so thankful when I have the opportunity to create a painting of someone’s special place or memory through a painting commission. It is an opportunity to learn more of their story and to become a part of their lives.
